Don’t look up. Not unless you want to see the truth.

A comedy directed by Adam McKay, Don’t Look Up is the chilling social commentary we didn’t know we so desperately needed until now. A beautiful mess of hilariously yet terrifyingly truthful satire, there is no doubt that tears will be streaming down your face if you choose to join the wild ride. (Whether by fear, sadness, or laughter...that’s TBD)

Over the past few years, politicians and citizens have believed in hysteria-ridden conspiracy theories in lieu of science. Hysteria and lies are the real viruses spreading like the sickness that has ensued as a result of these lies and the disbelief of science. The horrifying truth of reality is satirized by this film in which a scientist, Dr. Randall (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), and his student, Kate (Jennifer Lawrence), discover that a comet is headed toward planet earth. Simply put, the world is ending. And it’s up to the pair to save humanity.

On their journey to saving the world, Dr. Randall and Kate face the biggest threats of humanity: lying and scheming politicians and journalists. It is up to Dr. Randall and Kate to get members of society to simply believe them, despite the media and false information.

With a top notch and versatile cast, every viewer is bound to see a familiar face on screen. Icons including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Meryl Streep star in the film, and talented celebrities including Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande are featured.

Despite many mixed feelings on the intense satire, the flick was mostly a success. The film was named one of the top ten of 2021 by the National Board of Review and American Film Institute. It received four nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy. Don't Look Up set a new record for the most viewing hours in a single week on Netflix, and is currently the second most-watched film on Netflix within 28 days of release.

This film will shatter your heart, mend it with humor, and shatter it all over again. If we learn anything from this heart-wrenching yet hilarious film, it is to simply look up. Just look up.
