As a faithful lover of Christopher Nolan and physics, I watched Oppenheimer as soon as it came out. It is a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer including his story of studying physics, participating in the Manhattan Project, and being interrogated in the hearing.

Despite being a talented physicist who first brought quantum mechanics to the United States, his loyalty was questioned because of the group of people he kept in touch with, and he wasn’t even cleared until the end of 2022, almost fifty years after he died. This is the first question I started to think about after watching this movie: the impacts of political struggles. The lure of power, the role of pride, and the selection between public interest and the acquisition of personal power. In a highly political event, when are we misled by power, and when are we reaching the truth?

Another topic comes from a scene I had a very deep impression on which is the reactions of the injured Japanese Oppenheimer imagined when talking in front of the public. Nolan guides us to think about the question of morality in the context of wars, and even to stand in Oppenheimer’s role to think about the stress he must have taken on.

Overall, I believe this movie reflects much more than mere physics, but many ethical questions we can start thinking about.
