The movie The Raven directed by James Mc Teigue , staring John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe came out in theaters two weeks ago. This movie takes a fictional twist on Edgar Allan Poe's life. It is set back in time a week before Poe's death. In this suspenseful thriller a killer goes on a rampage mocking Poe's works of fiction making them reality. In an attempt to get Poe involved his love is taken hostage. If he ever wants to see her again he will have to comply with the killers demands.

The plot of this movie was very easy to follow. You didn’t have to be very educated about Edgar Allan Poe to have understanding about this movie. The ending was also very well thought out. Even with a twist, it comes together very nicely without you having to think very hard.

The cast selection could have been better, but it doesn’t really affect the enjoyment of the movie. Although John Cusack did a fantastic job playing the character of Poe, I think he was a little old for the part. Alice Ave also did a great job playing her character Emily, Poe's love. Not a lot of people know much about that aspect of his life, and I think she did a good job bringing her character to life.

One part I think they did really well with was the makeup and outfits. The masquerade scene was by far the most creative. It fit perfectly with the time period, and the outfits and makeup were original, and very appropriate for the plot of the movie. This was one of the best masquerade scenes I have watched.

I would highly recommend this movie to any adult or teen mature enough. There is just enough suspense, mystery, horror, and romance to be suitable for any viewing audience to be interested. In my opinion this is one of the best thrillers that have came out in awhile. It was very well thought out and filmed.
