Kid Krow Album Review
Conan Gray is a 23 year old, male singer and songwriter who grew up in Georgetown Texas and later on moved to Los Angeles California after getting accepted into UCLA. Growing up Conan had a very toxic childhood and relationship with his family, one that had also involved divorce between his parents when he was 3 years old. Growing up he had a youtube channel for singing and silly videos with his sister, Alyssa. In 2017, he self-released his song “idle town”. In 2018, Conan got his record deal with Republic record and released his first EP sunset season. He now has over 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
The album Kid Krow dives right into the life of the unloved and the damaged. This album is described as a coming of age with its description of abuse, love and discrimination. A favorite throughout social media, especially tiktok, “Maniac” is a very popular song. “Maniac” tells the story of an ongoing back and forth relationship. The lover tells their friends that he is crazy and dates them as a joke but constantly comes back, this shows a look into a lot of relationships throughout life that can be considered as toxic. Kid Krow delves into the emotions that one may not be able to put into words.
One of his songs, “The Story” is actually about the world and the sad ways that it works including suicide, toxic families and trying to get away from the horrible life that they live. He talks about getting away and living a better life, which he did. He had mentioned the suicide of two young teens and the struggles of bestfriends of the same gender, longing to be more. This album appeared to be number 5 on the top 200 billboard.
Another favorite by Conan Gray, even acknowledged by his idol, Taylor Swift, is “wish you were sober”. This song hits the raw emotion of wishing someone liked you even while they were sober while still allowing you to scream and dance. Its upbeat background with screm-worthy lyrics allows you to feel every emotion at once and I think that’s beautiful. Conan Gray made this album personal to his childhood and current life while also allowing others to feel the exact same way he did writing it as they listen to it. Conan Gray allows others to take it as they will and put it with their own experience. If you need to scream in the car to music, this is the alum exactly for that. It devours you will love, a bit of laughter, raw emotion, and others careless actions.
You know those heartbreaks that leave you crying in bed at night, lights off, holding your stomach from the pain of tears. This album represents that feeling and more. It represents every moment that you just wanted the screaming to stop and your heart to stop aching. It represents the crave of wanting someone that you know won’t change when you wish that they would for you. It is the album to scream when you’re in your car at night after a hard day because you honestly just want the world to slow down. To scream it with your friends because you both have had a horrible week. Sing it in the shower while the steam hits your back and you’re finally calm.
