On August 3, 2018, Travis Scott released his highly anticipated album Astroworld. Fans were first teased by lead single “Butterfly Effect'' which peaked at 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. When the long awaited album was finally released, it once again proved Scott to be a very talented and versatile artist. Throughout the 18 tracks, the production is what stands out on this album the most, but does not take away from the great vocals and flow. An elite group of artists were featured on the album as well, including Frank Ocean, Drake, Swae Lee, James Blake, Kid Cudi, Stevie Wonder, Juice WRLD, Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Pharrell, 21 Savage, Nav, Gunna, Don Toliver, Offset, and Quavo. Travis Scott’s versatility is present in every song on the album, but stands out especially in the iconic pieces “Sicko Mode” featuring Drake and “Skeletons” featuring The Weeknd. In these tracks, the Houston native shows off his vocals and his different flows, which fit the songs very well. They also had amazing features. My favorite is from artist Don Toliver on “Can’t Say”. There are also multiple beat switches on songs throughout the album, making it a very fun and enjoyable listen On “Stargazing” and “Sicko Mode”, the beat switches make the songs an amazing listen, especially paired with Travis’ vocals. There is also a very versatile tracklist with song choices for any mood. “Skeletons” and “Astrothunder” are very relaxed and melodic, while “No Bystanders” and “Sickomode” are very high in energy. Astroworld is Scott’s most consistent album as there are no below average songs in my opinion. Though there are no bad songs on the album, I don’t believe that it is better than the older project, Rodeo. I say this because the highs on Rodeo are higher than the ones on Astroworld, despite the consistency. Nevertheless, Astroworld has aged very well over the past 4 years. Though it is relatively new, the album has surpassed 6 billion streams on Spotify. I only see this album getting even more praise as time goes on. This album gets a rating of 9.0 out of 10 from me.
