Tip Toes by Jayme Dee
Southern California native, Jayme Dee released her first single, “Tip Toes” in August.
While living in Los Angeles, Dee made YouTube videos of her singing covers of popular songs such as Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” and Coldplay’s “Fix You.” She became famous from her song “Rules” which was featured in the movie The Hunger Games.
“Tip Toes” has a catchy beat. Jayme Dee’s unique voice is a mixture of an island vibe like Rihanna and spunk like Katy Perry. Her voice is definitely a pleasant addition to the music industry, but the actual song does not do her voice justice.
The story the song tells is quite juvenile and unoriginal; a girl falling in love. “Tip Toes” is filled with cliché lyrics, especially in her first two lines when she sings “boy you came like a hurricane/knocked me like a tidal wave.” The lyrics are rather weird. Dee sings phrases such as “throwin’ shoes at my radio” yes-because a clichéd love song was on the radio.
With such a good voice, Dee deserves good songs to go along with it. If you enjoy Taylor Swift’s pop songs and Katy Perry, stay tuned and see what’s next from Jayme Dee. Hopefully her career will only go uphill from this one mediocre single.
