"Sway" by Blue October
Blue October’s songs hold emotions that vary between passionate romance or bitter revenge. But one thing remains constant: the energy of Justin Furstenfeld. Through all his turmoils, the lead singer of Blue October incorporates his joy, pain, and experiences into the lyrics of his songs. In his latest concert, part of his tour for the new album Sway, Furstenfeld heightened the crowd’s energy along with his own. The songs ranged from “Congratulations”, a nice and slow love song, to “Dirt Room”, a song filled with hatred and a need for revenge. Despite the extremities of the song choices, Furstenfeld kept his audience captivated by moving around the stage and giving his listeners goosebumps with his screams.
It doesn’t matter what type of music a person is interested in, a Blue October performance will appeal to anyone. My cousin, who absolutely hates Blue October’s alternative rock, even joined my enthusiastic screams and thunderous clapping. The fans vary from white dudes with dreads head-banging to nerds scribbling in their journals; all the outcasts and weirdos share the love for Furstenfeld and his fellow band members. When Blue October preforms, they make sure to include the crowd by pointing the microphone in their direction and demanding their yells as a show of enjoyment. Jabbing the mic at the audience and head-banging to screams shows Furstenfeld’s passion for his music’s supporters and makes a fan’s heart beat faster than before.
