Halsey’s voice is amazing, and the stories she tells through her lyrics are just as good. Her words and even her own personal demeanor are good influences on teenage girls today. I see her as a role model; Halsey is very open minded and you can tell she has been through things she isn’t scared to admit in her life before being famous just like everyone else in the world. She doesn’t try to act perfect for the cameras. Her music just speaks to people sometimes even on a personal level if they are going through the same situation and understand her metaphors used. Halsey also started out on YouTube and Tumblr just like every teenaged girl, although then she used her real name Ashley Frangipane.
Badlands is written by singer/songwriter Halsey and produced by Lido. Halsey is currently signed with Astralwerks record label. It was released on August 28th, 2015.
The vibe of the album’s songs is alternative indie pop. The songs tell stories of her past and her take on society itself. When listening to the songs off the album you can really understand what she means behind her lyrics.
Lots of hard work and promotion was put into the album by Halsey and her team. There was first a release show for the album using her idea of “The Badlands” and having it become almost like an actual place. Some songs written for the album were also song by Halsey on her tour with Imagine Dragons on the Smoke and Mirrors tour as their opening act in 2015. Halsey is currently on her own Badlands tour sharing her music with her fans live.
I listened to Halsey when her Room 93 EP was out, before Badlands was released. When the album was released, I could not wait to listen to the new songs she created for her fans. Halsey is one of my favorite female singers. Her look and music are what caught my eye. It’s difficult to pick a favorite song off the album, but mine would have to be “Gasoline” or “Control”. I really enjoy the lyrics along with the beat to those two songs, but I still love them all.
Badlands album isn’t for everyone. There are some songs with explicit words and some with explicit context. The album is more for teenagers, boys or girls, whoever is into her music genre and her take on music. Adults may not like her music as my mom likes one of the songs and Halsey’s voice, but that’s about it.
On Halsey’s website the CD version of Badlands is $11.98, but can be found at in stores such as Target for the same pricing. Her pink vinyl is $21.98, but she also has a limited edition blue vinyl at Urban Outfitters for the same price. The iTunes store is selling the deluxe album for about $12 as well.
If you are into the genre of music Halsey gives along with her vibe, great music and storying telling I recommend you give the album Badlands a listen.
