Showers of money, a new handbag every day, Chanel, scandal, and scheming... Is this the life you live? Probably not! The characters of the intriguing show Gossip Girl couldn't say the same. However, a website run by an anonymous user doesn't make their world seem so far away.

"The Upper East Side is poisonous." The show Gossip Girl doesn't let that statement down easy. Itfollows the lives of privileged teenagers. There's a side to every story, but the side seen by many is Gossip Girl's. So what is Gossip Girl? More accurately, who is she? Well, you’ll never know- that is, until the last episode…

Socialite Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively is Gossip Girls' main prey. Serena is famous for dating a lot of guys as well as seeing the best in everyone. She is often convinced that the next one will "be different" and always getting into trouble because of it. "There's no starting over. No matter where I go, what I do, my past seems to follow...” says Serena to yet another new encounter.

Serena's best friend Blair Waldorf played by Leighton Meester constantly feels like she's crawling behind Serena's shadow throughout the course of the series. However, " crawling" would be an exaggeration. Blair is probably the most unrelatable character, yet the most complex. With Blair always comes a scheme, like sabotaging a relationship or helping someone out.  She creates schemes to get things the way she wants them. The whole crew ends up getting involved. Completely fabulous and chic, Blair keeps her "minions" with her at all times, a group of wanna-be Blair's. "Whoever said money couldn't but happiness didn't know where to shop!” lectured Blair to her minions.

Watching Gossip Girl, you will like some of the relationships that characters have and others not so much. Additional important characters are Chuck, played by Ed Westwick, a  personality who seems very dark at first. He's very hard to understand and appears cold and heartless to many. Nate, played by Chase Crawford, is the charming prince of the Upper East Side. Dan Humphrey played by Penn Badgley is referred to by Gossip Girl as "Loney boy" or "Brooklyn boy" and constantly trying to get into the world that Serena and her "clan" live in. But in his case it's a challenge. With this show having so many characters, you just never know what to expect from the simplest of strangers...

A typical episode follows these characters and gives you a glimpse of life from their point of view or perspective. For example, the first episode of the series, opens up with a Gossip Girl Blast, a notification from the website. As everyone checks the blast different emotions arise. Serena is back in New York City after running away to boarding school. It turns out Blair, who is Serena's best friend, is not excited about her arrival. She gives her the cold shoulder when they see each other at a party- that, by the way, the characters attend on a regular basis. Serena struggles to get the sympathy of her friend back in the following episodes, but, so she doesn't get too lonely, she meets Dan Humphrey, a nice boy from Brooklyn. Not giving too much away, the first episode leaves you wanting more. That's it. You are hooked.

Tears, laughter, suspicion, anger, you will experience it all watching Gossip Girl. Sometimes it may seem like you are reading their diary or watching them through a glass window. However, the quality of the script and the different personalities portrayed by the actors makeup for it. Many may assume all the characters are the same, because they share a commonwealth, but in this show, is not  the case.

However, people who do not enjoy watching a show based on drama will not enjoy Gossip Girl. The plot is very complicated and is often very winded making the show more interesting. The show has six seasons and has won 19 awards, such as ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards for the top television series in 2009. It can be streamed on Netflix, and old episodes can be found on The CW Network, as the show ended in 2012.

Gossip Girl is worth a watch. You could never get bored with the show. And as the girl who starts it all says, "And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell. You know you love me. Xoxo, Gossip Girl...”
