Sometimes we have the illusion that we are living a similar life every day, and that people in the world are living roughly the same life as us. But this is not the case. Just three years ago, I had an experience in the hospital, which made me deeply aware of the tremendous impact of illness on people's body, life and spirit. This is why I have been motivated to be a doctor since then, so that I can help more people in the world and get them out of the pain of disease.
I remember clearly that it was a cold night. When I returned home, I felt the unusually low atmosphere of the house, the usual kind of warmth, joy was gone. I saw fresh tears on my mother's face where the tears had dried and my father's furrowed brows. After I had a brief understanding of the situation from my father, I felt for the first time the sense of despair brought by the problem without a good solution. It was also the first time that I felt something that seemed far away from us and even I didn't think would happen to around me. It was like a bolt of thunder that exploded in our warm family -- my aunt's blood drawing report and a series of examinations revealed the result of breast cancer. Soon, another visual and auditory double whammy stood out even more than the silent blows that struck me at home. I went to the hospital with my mother to visit my aunt, and in the hallway, my eyes drifted into the other wards. What I saw was either the eyes full of tears, or the eyes that had been crying dry with tears. Seeing such a bleak scene, I think this is the most difficult moment in life, because a person's illness not only affects the person, but also the family is indescribable.
And another big news came out one after another as much as this one. The targeted drugs specific to my aunt were not available except in Turkey, where they were produced. And the targeted drug invalidates once it's out of the cold storage environment, and there's no way to detect it. I was thinking at that time, why is such a drug that can easily kill people not well popularized in the world? Fortunately, at that time, the Attitude of the government changed and vigorously introduced this drug. So my aunt could have a specific targeted drug for her type. And I believe that there are many more drugs in the world that have not been developed, or that for one reason or another are not being produced in large quantities to really serve patients. In other words, it can also be said that today's medicine is not very advanced, to take a simple example, penicillin must be stocked in hospitals in all countries. This is another reason why I apply for this summer program.
I sincerely want to help those people suffering from diseases in the world, and use the knowledge I have learned and the spirit of scientific research to serve more people in the world who have lost their families due to diseases and cancer.
