Untitled
I, too, sing America.
I am the confused child.
They laugh at me and chide me
for my weakness to correction
and I listen
with wonder
how I can allow such thoughts.
Tomorrow,
I will sit with them
and I will speak.
They shall wonder
why it is so like their own speech,
winding with inflection and
love.
And maybe,
they'll mark this hesitation
and be ashamed -
I, too, am America
