"A picture is worth a thousand words," they say
Maybe because pictures mean different things to certain people
Some people believe, others say, "No way!"

"A picture could say something like, "I'll make you pay!"
Or simply it could say, "The flowers are quite pretty."
"A picture is worth a thousand words," they say

Imagine a picture of a stack of hay
To a cow it says, "Mmm... delicious meal."
Some believe, others say, "No way!"

Crossing lines, to a math person, might say, "It's a ray!"
To someone else it could say, "Random abstract."
"A picture is worth a thousand words," they say

A picture of snow could say, "It's time to play!"
Or possibly, "It's cold, let's stay inside."
Some believe, others say, "No way!"

Maybe a painting says, "This way!"
But also, "Look over there!"
"A picture is worth a thousand words," they say
Some believe, others say, "No way!"

The author's comments:
I was thinking about why people say that a picture is worth a thousand words and decided that it was because a picture means different things to different people. This style of poem is a Villanelle, by the way.
